Why Sleeping Pills Don’t Work
If you have ever visited your doctor about your sleep problems then the chances are you were offered sleeping pills as a treatment for insomnia. However, as you may well have discovered for yourself, when it comes to curing insomnia, drugs simply don’t work.
Pills are usually prescribed because of the belief that they can normalise your sleeping patterns. The idea is that a stretch of continual good nights will 'get you back on track'. The truth is sadly quite different....
As many of you will already know, sleeping pills don't give you 'proper' sleep. Rather than getting a run of 'good' nights, the insomniac gets a run of drugged, unrefreshing nights which leaves them drowsy and miserable in the morning.
Hypnotic sleeping pills almost never help with chronic insomnia. This is because while sleeping pills can sometimes act as a temporary or stopgap measure, without addressing the underlying reasons for a long-term problem, the problem will still be there, waiting to rear its ugly head as soon as the pills are stopped. I would go as far as saying that when it comes to chronic, long-term insomnia, taking sleeping pills makes it impossible to recover a natural sleeping pattern.
To add to this, sleeping pills (and some natural insomnia remedies) come with a whole host of undesirable side-effects and can be highly addictive. In fact, each and every sleeping pill has one or more of the following side effects:
- Decreases the time taken to fall asleep by a negligible amount
- Does not increase the time spent asleep
- May wake you earlier than if you had not taken medication
- Does not improve your function the next day
- Is highly addictive
- Leaves you with an unpleasant hangover
- Increases your chances of developing serious illness, such as cancer and heart disease
- Causes depression and anxiety
- Increases your chances of dying by 25%
- Causes rebound insomnia
Clinical research has shown that not only are sleeping pills less effective than behavioural treatment for the treatment of chronic insomnia, but unlike most natural cures for insomnia, astonishingly sleeping pills often make insomnia worse.
In The Effortless Sleep Method manual I explain in more detail why sleeping pills, far from being an effective treatment for insomnia, could actually harm your chances of recovering from insomnia. This insomnia cure works instead by teaching you how to cure insomnia by guiding you to rediscover your ability to sleep naturally and completely unaided. There is not a single drug available which can do this.

"When I read the first chapter of your e-book, I sobbed. It was my story. After reading your sample Chapter 1, I woke up after the typical 3-4 hours
on the Zopiclone, but this time, unlike every other night, I went back to sleep for about 2 hours.... for the first time in ages. And I haven't even started yet! I just feel like someone really understood where I'm coming from.."
"Its only been a week since I started taking the actions suggested. Its early days yet but I feel very confident that my problems will be a thing of the past. I am so glad I don’t have to resort to sleeping pills or sleep restriction therapy to help me. "I am tickled to report that I have not experienced a sleepless night since I read your book and began to practice all your advice. You are a genius. I'm still rather amazed, and I'm sharing my recovery joy with all who know me. .."
"I just wanted to send a thank you for sharing the cure with the rest of us by writing such a brilliant book. I have been taking a pill every night for the last five years. I stopped four weeks ago on the day I finished your book. I used to have such anxiety at the thought of going to bed and now no longer do. I don’t even think about taking a pill at night anymore and for that I thank you! ."
